I figure this guy won't come up much in the Favorite Characters thread, so I'd like to get your ideas about him out here in the open.
Why is his vendetta against Kvothe so persistent? Doesn't he have better things to do with his money than buying an inn out of spite? Even an idiot knows better than to hit his head against the same wall that many times, right?
How did he convince that Modegan girl to poison Kvothe?
If Kvothe was nearly killed in a pirate action, and a bunch of people ahead of Ambrose in the line of succession were lost at sea at the beginning of WMF, did the Lord of the Pirate Isles have anything to do with it?
How will things escalate between A&K? Now that Kvothe has his gram, will Ambrose move to more subtle measures than malfeasance?
How brutal is Kvothe's revenge going to be?

K has been getting more bold with his revenge on Ambrose as the story goes on. I think it will lead to some broken stones by the eolian and his expulsion.

Ahhh, Ambrose! He is a little pest, eh?
I think it all started because his little man pride got hurt when Kvothe embarrassed him in front of Fela[sp?]
Some people have more money than sense though, and apparently he is one of them. Sometimes people just hate each other...
Ambrose seems the type to have to show how big a man he is by putting others down. I'm just wondering if maybe Kvothe is the first one to stand up to him.

I kinda think it has to do with what lalaley said, about his pride being hurt and Kvothe making him look bad and what not. Plus, I think he is also just jealous of Kvothe because he is smarter and better at most things. I do think that others have probably stood up to him, but they have all disappeared afterward. Just like he tries to drive Kvothe away, I'm certain he has practiced this with others, it's just Kvothe WONT go away. He has nothing to go away too. I think this also annoys Ambrose because he is used to "winning" if you can call it that. As for the way he wastes his money...apperantly not. Honestly, I thought the hat with the plume was far worse than the inn LOL!! I can only imagine how completely ridiculous he looks with that thing on. I think Ambrose honestly believes that if he keeps trying he will win. So he keeps trying. Either that or he just can't let Kvothe have the last say because it would be like him coming out on top. Some people are completely irrational like that. I've also always wondered how he got the Modegan Girl to get involved with the plum bob thing. I have no idea. All I can think is he MUST have had something over her, because it seemed to me that she was really upset about having to hurt Kvothe like that. Maybe she owed him money or her family did? I know a lot of people theorize that either Ambrose or Baron Jakis (his father) orchestrated those deaths at sea, but I always kinda wondered if that was even possible. Who agrees to wreck there ship at sea? I wish we could get the full story on that because I just have no clue. I know Pat did write it up so maybe some day in the future we will see it in an anthology or something. That'd be awesome. What kind of ideas do you have on this?? Can you pay someone to wreck there own ship and risk there life as well just to assassinate some dignataries?? And if so, how would that work? As for the escalation, Kvothe doesn't have his gram anymore remember? He looses it in the sea when his shipwrecks. So really him an Ambrose can just go back to the norm with eachother. Though I'm sure they will eventually have more serious confrontations.

K made a new gram when he made one for the Maer I thought.

Oh did he? How did I freakin' miss that in all my reads? *facepalm*
Obviously I care very little about grams. LOL! Makes sense though.

Yep, K made a 2nd gram.
Is it possible that the shipwreck that killed one of the families ahead of Ambrose's wasn't a simple wreck? What if it was the ship was attacked and sunk, how would anyone know the difference?
It's worth saying that I'm only guessing at this because Ambrose is enough of a turd that I believe he's capable of all that and it would make sense if he left Kvothe alone in Vint because he thought he had already killed him

I always assumed they hired pirates to sink them, or hired a person to go on board and damage the ship and slip out on a dingy in the night.

Okay...that makes a lot more sense.
God, I'd make a terrible politician *sigh* I would totally need lackies to come up with these ideas.

Who would you cast as Ambrose if you were making the movie?
I would want an older version of that evil kid from Game of Thrones. Or a young Vincent Cassel.

Haha I started a thread about that on good reads and said Geoffrey would be a great Ambrose. Plays a great love to hate baddie

Yah I actually love that kids acting, he's amazing. But I heard he's gotten so much hate mail he doesn't think he'll continue acting after the show, which to me, is really sad. Honestly, I kinda always pictured him to look like Hayden Christensen a bit.

He is looking at it wrong. He plays that part so well people hate him just like you do in the books. Would be a shame if he quits. He could make a good living off playing baddies in movies and TV

I hadn't heard that about the Geoffrey kid, that's horrible! Acting is a terrible job, I'd hate it. He needs to take a role like Ambrose, to be honest. A baddie that's kind of funny and in the end, effectively harmless. Ambrose is a terrible, terrible person but in the story he never really lands a solid blow against Kvothe. The closest he gets is the plum bob, and even then he gives up the game and tips off Kvothe before he can blow his admissions interview. He's a buffoon more than he's a villain, really. That'd be a perfect way to get back from "full villain." You never go full villain.

Yah, I read a thing the other day someone posted that GRRM felt kinda bad for him too. LOL. But honestly, I agree strangebrewd, its a testament to how skilled he is and I could see him making a fortune in the future. We need people that will play bad guys. I agree displacement he could win us over with a role like Ambrose. At first I hated Ambrose, and still I don't consider him a good person. But at this point, him and Kvothe are just as bad in regards to there rivalry. So, It's almost amusing.
