I'm just wondering, who do you all consider Main Characters and who do you consider side characters?
For a while I was putting almost everyone into the realm of side character, but the more I think about it the less I agree with myself LOL!
Obviously Kvothe and Denna are main characters, but what do you consider Sim and Willem? Or Manet?
Do you consider Maer Alveron a main character? Or Bredon?
Would you put Felurian in the realm of side character?

Kvothe, Denna, Ambrose, Elodin, Will, and Sim are. Maybes are Fella and Auri. The rest I would consider side characters.
Not sure where to put Bast and Chronicler though.

I was thinking I'd consider Fela a side character, but she might grow to more now since her and Sim are together.
I would put Auri as a main probably.
I agree Bast and Chronicler are hard to catagorize, when you are in the frame story they get a lot of play, but really, we know next to nothing about either one and the frame really hasn't played as huge a roll yet as the narrative I dont think.
HMMM
Those are good ones, I would love to know others opinions on where to put Bast and Chronicler for sure.
What about Old Cob? He gets a lot of bits in the frame as well, I almost feel like I get his character more than Bast!

To me the main characters are:
Kvothe Denna Will Sim Auri Elodin Ambrose Bast
Possibles are:
Fela Lorren Manet Chronicler The Waystone regulars
All the characters have their part, so I think it's hard to judge really. People like the Maer, for example, I feel will play a larger role later -- possibly at least. So it's hard to say at this moment. It's a bit like the Pottee books in that way. For me, Neville Longbottom is probably really a 'side character' but to me he's a main character. If that makes sense?

Yah I totally know what you mean. Thats a great reference actually, because throughout the novels you do feel like Neville is a side character, but by the end, I also felt like he was really important to the overall plot and slapped him in as main character easy.
I almost imagine something like that happening with Bredon or even Count Threpe.

I guess it is hard to judge with the series incompleted. I was going to put Threpe in the possibilities list. He seems to be a good friend to Kvothe. And I guess that's a large factor in who I would say was a main character.
I think it can be difficult to really know when there is a large cast of characters.
