So - read this today. TV SHOW BITCHES!Yes, you can cry now. Since I'm not an uberfan of some of the stuff thats happened on Game of Thrones, I'm a bit nervous. But I'm happy for Pat and happy we will likely be getting a bunch of new fans to chill out with, which is totally cool. On another note - um...maybe we should work on that terrible ass thing that somehow still gets labeled "wiki" I personally tried hosting my own, but no one had much interest in helping me write it, so I kinda gave up the idea, but if some of you would be willing to work on the old wikia one with me, we could probably make it nice. I'd be happy to host from my home server again, but - lets see how much interest we can generate on that front first. |

Woah awesome. Not sure how I feel about Fox doing it. I would hope it goes to FX personally. Also this would work if they did 2 seasons per book so they can take the time the story needs. Well shit I better start a casting thread on this forum now.
As for the wiki we should probably work on it then. I honestly haven't even used it more than a handful of times.

Also - I tried to use a few times but it was so non-helpful I gave it up.

I share your feelings, because I was George Martin's fan way long before the tv show came out... and I was a bit disappointed, but okay, I guess it's an enjoyable show, thanks to the talent of some actors... so I'm really nervous too!
Why aren't you particularly happy with Fox?
For the wiki thing... I've found it quite useless, so I think you are totally right.... I'd like to help, but I'm not that confident with the language... but maybe, since I know that I'm not the only foreigner, if someone else is interested we can translate everything in our own languages, making an international encyclopedia. I think that would be very nice.

Fox has a tendency to butt in and change things that is better for them and not the series itself. That and they do not put out that much good programming. FX is where anything I will even watch is located and they seem to have a little more freedom to do what they want. Granted it might not get as big of a budget if it were on FX vs primetime FOX. It does appear that they are going in on this with the hopes of pulling the GoT fanbase over to their side. Which if they do it right they very likely will do just that.
I am excited for it like I was for GoT. I just detach myself from the books as much as I can when I watch shows like that. If you try and compare to much you only get disappointed. Just hope they do not half ass it.

Mmm... I see the problem... they have their politics, probably due to commercial purposes and the range of viewers they're looking at...
While GoT was a HBO's product, if I am not wrong? If they're going to challenge that top show's popolarity, maybe we can be keep our hopes high...
Both the shows could get the best out of this battle.

Lets not get too excited here. While I'd love to have a high-budget show with every character I like played by ever actor I like and a completely faithful reproduction of the story precisely as I read it with all the pronunciations I used... but Fox is going to have a super tight budget and we're not likely to see any actors we know in this show. It'll probably be really tame. I don't trust TV- the writing is all done by committee and it's going to try to be everything to all people. I wish somebody else had picked it up - FX or Showtime or ANYONE other than the regular networks. I'm sure it was a fruitful deal for Rothfuss but I don't think I'll be too happy with how it turns out

Oh, how exciting! I'm quite good at disassociating books with their films/TV shows. (Got my practice from the Potters) I'm glad that they are doing a TV show. A film (or series of films) would never work. displacement Hopefully PR will make sure he has a huge say in what goes on. |

TV lately had better wiring than a lot of movies so I am glad it will be a TV series. Fox owns FX so it could be for that channel to try and get the GoT and walking dead crowds. Fantasy/Sci Fi series are all the rage right now so they are looking to get a piece. Hope Pat is well involved with the series, which I think he would be

Yah, I'm trying my best not to get too high of hopes. I did quite enjoy season 1 of GOT, thought it was done spectacularly, one of the best adaptations I've seen. But Season 2 started the slippage and Season Three you really saw the results of tiny changes, plus they added in some major ones that I really disliked. So - I'm kinda expecting to see the same thing here, unless Pat gets to be more involved. I think they would probably do a better GOT if Martin could devote more time to it, but he gets so much hassle when he does, I can see why doesn't/can't. Pat will be closer to closing up the story for KKC so he might have more of a chance for involvement. Crossing my fingers for that, but we'll see, I'm sure he will make an announcement on the blog at some point, hopefully with more details. Also - I agree, if it's going to crossover into this medium, I'm glad that it was at least made into a tv series. There is just so much a movie wouldn't have the time to do it'd be an instant dissapointment. As for the Wiki, alexiel I would be happy to go over any pages for you that you write up just to clear up any punctuation or language misuse, your english really isn't that bad, I haven't had a problem with reading your posts at all. I know some people who ONLY speak english who are worse off. LOL! If people are interested we can divy up some characters/locations/whatever for correction. I'd say first to call it gets it? I've done a few on there that should be pretty correct still unless other editers have come along, but I think pretty much all of it could use a comb through. |

I follow his blog, and Pat seems to be very maniacal and accurate in taking care of his books, perhaps sometimes even too much... so I don't think he's the kind of person that would just close both eyes and let other people do what they want with his work. But he also seems a very busy man with tons of projects on the run. I can only hope that he's okay with his decisions! Ivory Doom ahah I know what you mean, and I can say the same about some italian people who barely know even our own grammar.... u_u So if having to go over all my pages really doesn't bother you, I'll gladly join you in this project. I prefer working on WMF, at least for now, until I manage to get the english version of the NoTW. Should we start a new thread for a better organization? |

alexiel I really don't mind just tell me which ones to run over. Also - yes I think a new thread for this project would be fitting. Yah, I agree, Pat will probably do a fine job. I have faith in him, this just took me, and seems like a lot of others, by surprise. I'm going forward with a better attitude toward it for sure.

Yah, I've been waiting for a blog post too, but nada.
He hasn't posted for almost half a month. Hopefully he didn't get too annoyed/offended because he was being trolled a bit over there.
Which is too bad.
Then again, if he did, probably best to just take a break from the interwebs for a bit. Hopefully he's just busy doing something awesome we can all appreciate later. LOL.

He is a nice man and being surrounded by tons of fans is a cool thing, but many of them are really annoying, inappropriate and harassing. I get often irritated reading all those useless comments on his facebook page... I admire his patience. I'd lose my mind, if something like that happen to me.
I would transform myself into a SIthe, hunting and shooting down everyone.
If he's irritated by them, he has all my comprehension.... but I also think he should not have Oot involved, posting public photos. He's so cute, but is a little child and his privacy should be respected and protected.
