Hello everyone. I posted a hello message in the other off topic forum, but hello again just in case you have seen that yet. I was wondering if you all could help me generate some ideas for a tattoo to go along with a quote of Pat's from In the Name of the Wind? I would just get the quote on my arm, but I don't think that would do the meaning or Pat justice...you know what I mean? So, I'll put the quote below and if any one has any ideas just put them on here. As a guideline I'm not really looking for anything specific, just something that relates the quote back to the story in some way...if that makes sense. Thank you all!

Just so you all know, I chose this quote because I've always been a writer and I firmly believe in this line with all my heart. I'm sure we all went through the emotional ups and downs with Kvothe because of Pat's words. I just hope that my writing can take people on the same adventure one day. So that's why I chose this quote, now I'll hand it over to you all to help me come up with some neat things that I won't regret putting on my body for the rest of my life! Thank you all again!!

When I saw tattoo ideas I immediately thought of wind blown leaves. Then a silhouette of K and a tree in the background with a big full moon. But not sure if that would work as well with the quote. Great quote to choose though. Hmm do you have any ideas so far?

The only idea I've had so far is a book that's open and the quote written on one of the pages, while I feel that's an okay option, I'd rather it be a last resort because it doesn't tie in with the story in any way. I do like the wind blown leaves idea, given some time I think I could probably incorporate that in there somehow.

I think this quote would be really awesome next to a rendition of Haliax or even all the chandrian, in silohuette maybe?

I also think it would be cool if you got someone to draw up that scene from when Kvothe is crying and being comforted by Auri.
Okay, these might be a little over the top in the form of tattoo ideas, I admit. LOL!
Maybe if you did do just the words, you could do them in a circle, since thats the symbol for the edema ruh. I have thought about gettting "One Family" tattooed in a circle many times, but I'm a pansy ass.
Sorry, if that wasn't very helpful, but I'm totally still thinking about this. I'd love to get a KKC tattoo someday as well. Also an ASOIAF one would be killer.

I do like the idea of a single tree as well though, especially the more I think about it.
The fae use the ctheah's tree as symbolage for a tragedy by putting it in the first scene of there plays and whatnot. I think this quote would also fit with that, a picture of the Ctheah's tree, because, well, obviously, words are all the Ctheah has and yet...so much freakin' trouble comes from them.
Maybe even a couple of dead butterflies with there wings ripped off would be cool, and kinda hardcore, vs floating leaves.
Make them floating butterfly wings!
Man, now I really like that idea, almost enough actually use real cuss words.

Hahaha Ivory Doom you can use cuss words. It's not against the rules or anything  Also I love the idea of the Cthaeth tree tattoo. And ripped butterfly wings would make it look awesome! If and when you get it, if it's in a reasonable place, you should totally post a picture and show us how it turned out! |

It's odd because I just now seen these posts, but I've been thinking about getting the Cthaeh in the middle of the tattoo itself all day. I've tried to combine the ideas to come up with something that would mean a lot, and would also look good as a tattoo. So far, this is what I've come up with, I'd appreciate any feedback you all could give me, I'm still open to suggestions as well. Alright, here it goes.
Like I said earlier, I'd like to get the Cthaeh itself in the middle of the tattoo, the background would be night with the phases of the moon splayed out above to tree to give a reference to Hailax/Alaxel. I was also thinking of getting something like comets in the sky to make it look like the full moon phase was crying to tie it in with the "Words can wring tears from the hardest of hearts," line in the quote. Then I was going to get fire to be surrounding the tree to reference Kvothe, as well as the "Words can light fires in the minds of men," line. Then I'd either get the quote written in the night sky, or under the picture itself.
That's all I have for now, and I really appreciate all the ideas you all have given me to think about. Thank you all, and keep them coming!

That is a lot to imagine, I wish I could see some concept art. LOL! You wouldn't happen to be an artist would you tymc?  Also where do you plan to get this tattoo? That might help with the suggestions. |

It is quite a bit, I'll probably end up either taking some things out, or trying to make things a lot more simple.
Sadly, I am no artist, I desperately wish I was though. If there is anyone on the forum that is though, and has some free time, I definitely wouldn't mind talking about this with them.
And I plan on getting it on my left arm, in the bicep area, and I could possibly end up turning it into a half sleeve, or maybe it could at least be the beginning of one.

I guess my main question is, how do you imagine Ctheah looks? Or do you mean just the tree?
I've never really considered how it really looks, just went with invisible. LOL!
If you are looking for good artists you can always hit up deviantart too. I've had a few runnins with artists over there when I was uploading images for KKC Wiki and they were all totally cool.

That's a good question though. I had never really thought about it until now, but I guess to me it seems like it would be a weeping willow tree on steroids. Like, with the leaves/branches off a weeping willow, but with a trunk that is twisted and gnarled. Again, that it was I usually see in my head.
And I have been over to deviantart to look up a few pictures done on KKC characters, I haven't really tried to reach out to an artist though, I may definitely have to change that though. Thanks for the suggestion.

I'm thinking about a tattoo for myself too, but the only idea I came up with is a simple word, Aerlevsedi, the real name of the wind. Maybe with some nice windy whirls around...
I'm following this thread cause you guys have lot of nice ideas!

Ctheah is a Weeping Willow in my mind. Only tree I can picture whipping butterflies in half. They also have good cover hanging down to conceal things in their branches.

I haven't read the description of the tree in a while, but for some reason I always imagined it looking like a massive oak tree.
LOL.
I love all the different views. It's quite interesting.
I wish I was a little better at free hand artwork, these are some nice ideas for just drawings as well as tattoos.
